Every solar project we complete generates more than clean energy — it generates the means to give back. The Sunshine Programme channels a portion of Helios Group's commercial project proceeds into community support and education for organisations that cannot afford them.
The Sunshine Programme was born from a simple conviction: a solar company that works across rural Malaysia, Southeast Asia, and beyond has a unique obligation — and opportunity — to use clean energy as a tool for direct community impact.
Rather than separating commercial operations from social responsibility, Helios Group integrates them. A portion of proceeds from every completed commercial project flows into the Sunshine Programme, which then directs support to vetted community organisations across three areas.
Each organisation below was selected because of the directness of their community impact, the vulnerability of the people they serve, and the tangible difference that Helios Group's support makes to their day-to-day operations.
Rumah Amal Asnaf Al Barakh is a welfare home caring for orphaned and underprivileged children between the ages of two and seventeen — children from backgrounds of poverty, abandonment, single parentage, and those referred directly by the Department of Social Welfare. The home was founded under Pertubuhan Kebajikan Asnaf Al Barakh Malaysia and has been operating since 2010.
Today, the home accommodates approximately 47 residents, providing shelter, meals, education support, and daily Islamic guidance. Five full-time caregiving staff manage the home, ensuring every child attends school, receives a daily meal allowance, and has access to basic necessities. Monthly operating costs run to approximately RM28,000–33,000 — funded entirely through public donations with no fixed income source.
In December 2025, Helios Group contributed RM10,000 to Rumah Amal Asnaf Al Barakh — earmarked specifically for school necessities for the children in their care. The contribution covered school supplies, uniforms, stationery, and other back-to-school essentials ahead of the new academic year, directly reducing the financial burden on the home as it prepares its 47 residents for school.
The Malaysia Karen Organization Learning Centre (MKOLC) is a community-run school for Karen refugee children from Myanmar — one of more than 150 informal learning centres across Peninsular Malaysia serving the estimated 36,000 registered refugee and asylum-seeking children who are legally barred from attending Malaysian government schools.
The Karen are one of the largest refugee communities in Malaysia, with over ten thousand members under the umbrella of the Malaysia Karen Organization (MKO), formally established in 2005. The learning centre provides pre-primary and primary education in English and Burmese for up to 80 students, run by Karen community teachers who are themselves refugees — working for compensation far below market rates out of commitment to their community.
For these children, the MKOLC is not an alternative to school — it is the only school they have. Dropout rates are high, driven by financial pressure on families and the cost of school fees. Helios Group's Sunshine Programme supports the Malaysia Karen Organization Learning Centre through regular food contributions for students and teachers, and through direct operational contributions toward running costs — helping ensure the centre remains open, its teachers compensated, and its students fed.
Sri Selva Vinayagar Temple in Serendah is one of Selangor's most community-oriented Hindu temples — a centre not just for worship, but for education, culture, and social services. Originally built as a wooden structure in 1965, the temple has grown over six decades into a well-managed community hub serving the Tamil-speaking population of Serendah and surrounding areas.
The temple operates a preschool (SSVT Preschool) established in June 2015, offering early childhood education to children in the area. Beyond the preschool, the temple compound hosts computer classes, Indian classical dance lessons, Thevaram instruction and other Hindu religious studies, and a community dining hall — making it a daily gathering point for the local Indian community.
For a community temple operating on devotee contributions and volunteer effort, the cost of electricity across all these programmes is a genuine operational burden. Helios Group's Sunshine Programme supports Sri Selva Vinayagar Temple Serendah through ongoing operational contributions toward the temple's running costs, and long-term maintenance support to keep its facilities — including the preschool and community hall — in good condition for the families and devotees who depend on them daily.
